2009 Cadillac DTS Battery Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the positive battery cable on 2009 Cadillac DTS?
A: Start cable replacement by removing the surge tank followed by negative battery cable detaching and carpet removal. First remove the battery positive cable NUT then disconnect this cable from the battery point via separation. First free the positive battery cable retainer that is mounted on the floor pan stud before you remove the battery cable nut and terminal from the junction block stud. Proceed by removing the positive battery cable retainer from the rocker panel as well as the retainers 2 3 4 from the body harness channel followed by clips 2 3 4 5 from both the body harness retainers and dash mat. Remove the dash mat flap while unlocking the junction block cover tabs then detach the junction block cover. The starter solenoid cable needs its nut removed which anchors it to the bussed electrical center (BEC) and the cable must also be detached from the BEC stud before the positive battery cable is unattached from the BEC stud. Position the positive battery clips in the side engine compartment and gently work on unseating the positive battery cable grommet from the dash front area. The mechanic inside the car should guide the positive battery cable through the opening in the dash front before removing it from the vehicle. When installing the positive battery cable users should first run the front end of the cable through the front dash then insert the positive battery cable grommet at the front dash wall. Begin by installing positive battery clips into the side engine compartment and then connect the positive battery cable to the BEC stud followed by the starter solenoid cable to the BEC stud. Attach the nut that retains the starter solenoid cable to the BEC and tighten it to 15 Nm (11 lb ft). Install the junction block cover afterward. The dash mat flap should receive its proper position before attaching the positive battery cable clip to install on the dash mat and using clips 2, 3, and 4 to mount on the body harness retainers. The body harness retainers (2, 3, and 4) should be installed to the channel while the retainer attaches to the rocker panel. Connect the positive battery cable terminal to the junction block stud while torquing its nut to 15 Nm (11 lb ft). Tighten the positive battery cable nut to 15 Nm (11 lb ft) while positioning the positive battery cable to the battery. After that, install the positive battery cable retainer to the floor pan stud. Combine the negative battery cable while reinstalling the carpet prior to installing the surge tank.
