  • Q: How to replace the engine crossover coolant pipe on 2009 Cadillac DTS?
    A: Drain the cooling system in order to replace the engine coolant crossover pipe. Among all the components which require elimination, the air cleaner, fuel injector sight shield, and Water Pump Drive Belt. Remove the brake booster vacuum hose clamp and pull on its vacuum hose from the Water Pump housing. Next, we have to remove the oil level indicator tube nut and move it up and remove the transaxle vent hose clip and Throttle Body bolts then remove Throttle Body and toss the seal. Unfasten the Throttle Body plenum duct clamp and disconnect the duct. Take off the fuel rail bracket nut, reposition the surge tank inlet hose clamp, and remove the inlet hose. Remove the engine coolant output fitting, rear left lift bracket bolt, as well as the bracket, followed by the nuts for the EGR Valve shield and the shield itself. To remove the EGR Valve, unplug its gasket and then unplug also the engine harness electrical connector. Lift and support the vehicle by pulling the crank handle to remove the egr pipe nut, situated on the Exhaust Manifold and then lower the vehicle. Unbolt and throw away the egr inlet pipe. Put out the evap canister purge solenoid valve and the valve, then the MAP Sensor bracket bolt as well as the sensor itself. Using the j 38185, relocate the radiator inlet hose clamp and remove the inlet hose, relocate the outlet hose clamp and remove the outlet hose. Take off the Water Pump belt tensioner studs and the tensioner and reposition the heater outlet hose clamp and remove the hose. Take out the Water Pump cover bolt and studs and the cover, as well as loosen the Water Pump housing bolts, taking out the housing along with gaskets. On the bench, extract the Water Pump bolts and the pump, throwing out the o ring. For installation, put in a new o-ring on the new Water Pump and secure it with the bolts using 10 nm (89 lb in). Mount the Water Pump housing with the new gasket while tightening the bolts to a torque value of 25 nm (18 lb ft) in the described order. Mount the cover of the Water Pump making sure that the bolt is positioned lower inboard and the studs on the rest of the positions and tighten the bolt to 10 nm (89 lb in). Reinstall the heater outlet hose and clamp along with the Water Pump belt tensioner and tighten the studs to 10 nm (89 lb in). Reconnect the radiator outlet and the inlet hoses by using the j 38185 to install the mount the clamps. Remove the bracket and reinstall the MAP Sensor and tightening the bolt to 10 nm (89 lb in) and proceed to reinstall the evap canister purge solenoid valve and tighten its bolt. Hand start the new egr inlet pipe nut at the manifold of the exhaust, install the inlet pipe and bolt, then tighten the nut to 60 nm (44 lb ft), the bolt to 25 nm (18 lb ft). Raise and support the vehicle again and tighten egr inlet pipe nut and lower the vehicle and attach the engine harness electrical connector back. Replace the new EGR Valve Gasket, and then EGR Valve and bolts tight 25 nm (18 lb ft). Put on the EGR Valve shield and nuts and give the rear left lift bracket a final adjustment with the same torque of 25 nm (18 lb ft). Install engine coolant outlet fitting with a torque of 47 nm (35 lb ft) and reconnect the surge tank inlet hose and clamp. Mount the fuel rail bracket nut with none of the sealant between the plenum and Water Pump housing mounting, and install a new Throttle Body plenum duct and tighten clamp to 2.25 nm (20 lb in). Unscrew the Throttle Body bolt. Put on a new Throttle Body seal, the Throttle Body, bracket, and bolts, and tighten the bolt to 10 nm (89 lb in). Install the transaxle vent hose clip, place the oil level indicator tube, and tighten the nut to 10 nm (89 lb in). Re-coat the brake booster vacuum hose and clamp and re-a-fit the Water Pump Drive Belt as well as re-fitting the air cleaner. Lastly, top up the cooling system and replace the sight shield of the fuel injector.
