2009 Cadillac Escalade Brake Disc Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake disc on a 2500 Series on 2009 Cadillac Escalade?
A: You must start the process of replacing the rear Brake Disc in a 2500 series vehicle by first releasing the parking brake and checking if the brake master cylinder reservoir contains too much fluid. If the fluid level reads above the clear indicator mark, drain some fluid to reach the right position. Put the vehicle on stands and move the tire-wheel unit away. Mark the disc's position relative to the hub before starting work. Force the brake caliper pistons back using a big c-clamp placed over the housing towards the back pad until both pistons fully withdraw then remove the c-clamp. Use mechanic wire to stabilize the brake caliper and shield the hydraulic flexible brake hose from harm. Remove the brake caliper bracket bolts to take away the assembly of caliper and bracket without disconnecting the hydraulic brake hose. Take out the Brake Disc retaining push nuts from wheel studs when possible. Strike the hub or disc end with a deadblow hammer if needed to free the disc from the hub. Then, release the disc by turning and pulling it off the axle. Use the wheel hub and disc resurfacing kits j-42450-a and j-41013 to remove rust and contaminants from both surfaces. Check the mating surfaces for dust and dirt before returning the disc to its original position and installing it by rotating while moving it towards the axle. Check the laminated runout (LRO) of the disc assembly; if it fails quality standards you must adjust until the readings are within tolerance. Place and tighten the caliper and bracket unit as a single part by first clearing bolts of old adhesive. Clean threads with brake parts cleaner and apply gm thread locker part number 12345493 with canadian equivalent 10953488 prior to screwing the caliper bracket bolts to 200 nm (148 lb ft). Put back the tire and wheel set, lower the vehicle, then slowly press the Brake Pedal to 2/3 of its range when the engine is off. Continue this operation when the Brake Pedal feels solid enough to evenly push the caliper pistons into place. Complete the process by adding clean brake fluid to the master cylinder until it reaches the specified amount then polish the brake pads and discs.
