• Q: How to replace the Fuel Injection Fuel Rail Assembly for Bank 1 (LLT) (3.6L) on 2009 Cadillac STS?

  A: A proper replacement of the fuel injection Fuel Rail assembly for bank 1 (LLT) (3.6L) starts with draining the fuel system pressure. For Fuel Rail assembly replacement please remove sequence elements that include the cross vehicle brace together with fuel pipe shield and Intake Manifold. Begin the replacement by taking out and discarding the high pressure fuel pipe after which the crossover pipe from the Fuel Rail should also be removed. First remove the foam insulation from the fuel rails then disconnect the Fuel Pressure Sensor electrical connection and shorten the wire harness ties. When unplugging the Fuel Rail bolts you must pay attention to the correct wire routing paths to prevent any possible damage. Discard both the Fuel Pressure Sensor along with direct Fuel Injector hold down clamps because the direct fuel injectors require rebuilding every time they are removed from the Fuel Rail or cylinder head. Rebuilding of fuel injectors should take place after removing the Fuel Rail. The rebuilt direct fuel injectors need to be placed inside the cylinder heads followed by new direct injector hold down clamps for installation. Authentically apply gm p/n 12345610 (Canadian P/N 9931930) or equivalent silicon-free engine oil to the new Fuel Rail injector cups before positioning the rail while using hand pressure to secure it first with outer bolts then inner bolts. Torque the bank 1 Fuel Rail bolts to 12 nm (106 lb in) on the initial tightening but finish with 23 nm (17 lb ft). The installation procedure involves using new Fuel Rail crossover pipe and high pressure fuel pipe components and attaching the high pressure fuel sensor. Fasten the Fuel Injector wiring harness electrical connector to all Fuel Rail components and Fuel Pressure Sensor and injectors. The inspection for fuel leaks requires a procedure of turning on ignition with engine off for 2 seconds followed by engine off for 10 seconds before turning ignition on for leak checking. Reinstall all parts in order starting with the foam insulator, then the Intake Manifold and the fuel pipe shield followed by the low side fuel pressure service port cap, fuel tank cap and ending with the cross vehicle brace.
