2009 Chevrolet Aveo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the crankshaft without variable camshaft phasing on 2009 Chevrolet Aveo?
A: The Crankshaft replacement process starts by unscrewing engine and Flywheel bolts and removing the Flywheel after we extract the Crankshaft rear oil seal. The j 42492-a tool enables Timing Belt tension relief after mounting the engine assembly on km 412 while removing upper and lower front Timing Belt cover bolts together with their covers and gently unfastening Water Pump retaining bolts. The valve cover with gasket needs removal after disconnecting crankcase ventilation tubes and engine cover bolts and ignition wires while safeguarding the camshafts from damage. Begin by extracting the Camshaft bolts and gears from the intake and exhaust section then detach the Timing Belt automatic tensioner and idler pulley. Starting with the rear Timing Belt cover and Oil Pump you should remove everything up to the Oil Pan and Crankshaft Timing Belt gear, while documenting the connecting rod and Crankshaft bearing caps order before cleaning each part. Use appropriate cleaning methods for the components before measuring bearing clearances with plastic gauges while checking the Crankshaft's end play. A thorough Crankshaft bearing coating with engine oil follows before adding adhesive sealing compound to the rear Crankshaft bearing cap grooves. Then install the Crankshaft assembly with bearings. Apply engine oil to the Crankshaft bearings before installing the Crankshaft bearing caps using new bolts. Torque the bolts to 50 nm (37 lb ft) followed by an additional 45 degrees and 15 degrees rotational motion with j 45059 or km-470-b. Move forward by installing the connecting Rod Bearing components with new bolts torqued to 25 nm (18 lb ft) and an advanced turn of 30 degrees and 15 degrees. Mount the Oil Pump first and its retaining bolts to 10 nm torque setting (89 inch pounds). Next install the oil pickup tube and its bolts. The Oil Pan should receive gasket attachment within a 5-minute time period after liquid gasket application before installing retaining bolts with a torque specification of 10 nm (89 lb in). Set the km 412 engine to rotate while installing the rear Timing Belt cover together with its bolts and then the Crankshaft Timing Belt gear along with the Timing Belt automatic tensioner bolted at 25 nm (18 lb ft). Fasten the Timing Belt Idler Pulley bolt while maintaining 40 nm (30 lb ft) torque. Place the intake and exhaust Camshaft gears carefully and tighten bolts to 67.5 nm (49 lb ft). After tensioning the Timing Belt evenly place gasket sealant on the valve cover zones and reinstall the valve cover with washers while tightening the nuts to 9 nm (80 lb in). Reinstall the front Timing Belt cover with bolts that need tightening to 10 nm (89 lb in). Also reinstall the crankcase ventilation tube before placing the engine cover back with its bolts. Install the Power Steering Pump and mounting bolts with 25 nm (18 lb ft) torque while using an engine lifting device to extract the engine from the km 412. To finish the installation use the j-36792 or km-635 rings for a new Crankshaft rear oil seal and secure the Flywheel with its bolts properly tightened per transaxle specifications before engine reinstallation.
