2009 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Rocker Shaft Spring Kit and valve stem oil seal on 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: Before changing the Valve Stem Oil Seal and spring make sure the Crankshaft stays immobile to prevent breaking the flywheel holding tool (J 43653) during compressed air use in the cylinder. Keep your vehicle in first gear and activated parking brake for manual transmission jobs while removing the automatic transmission Starter. Place the flywheel holding tool (J 43653) first and remove both Camshaft and Camshaft roller followers. Set up the valve spring compressor tool (J43650) on the Cylinder Head then uninstall the spark plugs before inserting an air hose adapter in the Spark Plug hole and inflating the cylinder barrel at 690 kpa (100 psi). Press the valve spring compressor tool while extracting the valve spring keepers to remove the valve spring. To remove the valve seal use your valve guide seal remover (part number J 36017). Use the valve guide seal remover (J 36017) to place the new valve seal and then capture the valve spring with full compression until you set the valve spring keepers. Put back the air hose adaptor while taking out the valve spring compressor j 43649 and reloading the spark plugs. Close the Camshaft again alongside its followers before you put back the Starter unit if it was not taken out. Uninstall the flywheel holding tool (J 43653) from the engine.
