2010 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Rocker Shaft Spring Kit and valve stem oil seal on 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: Make sure the Crankshaft stays still during the work by setting a manual transmission in first gear on a grounded vehicle with a locked parking brake or removing the automatic transmission Starter. Install the tool (J 43653) and remove the Camshaft assembly together with its roller followers. Install the (J 43649) tool to the Cylinder Head and take out the spark plugs. Connect the air hose adaptor to the Spark Plug hole to pressurize the cylinder to 690 kpa with an air turbine. Press the valve spring to its shortest position with a spring compressor tool. Then take off the valve spring keepers and withdraw the valve spring. To remove and later replace the valve seal use the (J 36017). The same tool helps during installation supported by valve and keeper arrangements. Replace the spark plugs after you remove both the air hose adaptor and the (J 43649) part. Reinstall the Camshaft and Camshaft roller followers afterward put the Starter back if it was removed at (J 43653).
