2009 Chevrolet Colorado Steering Knuckle Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace a Steering Knuckle on 2009 Chevrolet Colorado?
A: The replacement of the Steering Knuckle begins with vehicle lift and support. Start by removing both tire and wheel assembly before lifting the lower Control Arm with a proper jack. Brake caliper and mounting bracket can stay attached when you do the installation. The assembly needs to be completely taken out before securely holding it in position with mechanics wire. Park the brake caliper assembly to a different position. Owners of vehicles with 4wd technology need to detach the front wheel drive shaft from the Steering Knuckle. Unplug the speed sensor wiring harness from its two retaining clips which fasten it to the upper Control Arm and frame. Begin by taking out the outer Tie Rod End from the knuckle then split the upper Ball Joint from the knuckle followed by disassembly of lower Ball Joint. First separate the knuckle from both control arms before removing Wheel Hub and bearing assembly from the knuckle. The installation process begins by fixing the Wheel Hub and bearing assembly to the knuckle followed by lower Control Arm/ball joint installation into the knuckle. Put in the wheel drive shaft prior to fastening it into the knuckle for vehicles having 4wd. First, install the upper Control Arm/ball joint into the knuckle before adding the outer Tie Rod End. Guide the speed sensor wiring harness into retaining clips before installing the brake caliper mounting bracket. Mount the wheel drive shaft retaining nut correctly then remove support for the lower Control Arm and place tire and wheel before taking out support and lowering the vehicle.
