2009 Chevrolet Equinox Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Expansion Valve on 2009 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: A professional must recover refrigerant before replacing the air conditioning Evaporator thermal expansion valve (TXV). The removal process of the txv should be conducted with clean tools and work area because any foreign material must not pollute the seals. The first step before repair work involves cleaning the txv seal region with non-petroleum solvents to prepare all components for wiping with compressed air from a clean source while using smooth materials for cleaning. The first step includes removing both evap outlet hose and liquid line retainer plate nut from the txv before moving to the evap outlet hose and liquid line. Protective caps need installation to both the Evaporator outlet hose and liquid line after disposing of their sealing washers. The next step is to remove txv bolts from the backing plate and extract both the txv and backing plate from the vehicle while discarding the Evaporator pipes' seal washers to install protective caps that stop contamination. Install new seal washers after removing protective caps from Evaporator pipes only when these areas are clean and lint-free and dry. Put protective caps aside before installing the txv and backing plate onto the Evaporator pipes while tightening the txv bolts to 3.5 nm (31 lb in). After removing protective caps from the liquid line and Evaporator outlet hose you should install new seal washers before reattaching them to thetxv. The technician should mount the liquid line and Evaporator outlet hose retainer plate nut to the txv before tightening it to 20 nm (15 lb ft). Evacuation and charging of the a/c system must occur to ensure proper performance following which the a/c joints need leak testing through the use of j 39400-a (Halogen Leak Detector).
