2008 Chevrolet Equinox Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Expansion Valve on 2008 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: The first step in thermal expansion valve replacement demands refrigerant recovery through the Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A). Proper cleaning of work areas and tools will prevent both foreign substances and dirt from contacting the sealing elements. The area surrounding the TXV needs cleaning before starting repairs while keeping all components free from contaminants using a solvent without petroleum base together with lint-free cloths for wiping. Begin by removing first the retainer plate nut from the TXV next to the evaporator outlet hose and then extract the evaporator outlet hose itself along with the liquid line. Sealing washers from both the evaporator outlet hose and liquid line need to be discarded before installing protective caps to stop contamination. The next step involves removing the TXV bolts attaching the backing plate before taking out the TXV with its plate from the vehicle while disposing of the evaporator pipe washers and fitting protective caps. New seal washers must be used for the evaporator pipes installation after making sure these areas remain clean and dry and free from lint. Do away with the protective caps from the TXV while mounting it and the backing plate to the evaporator pipes before fastening it securely with TXV bolts at 3.5 N.m (31 lb in). Install new seal washers before you connect the liquid line along with the evaporator outlet hose to the TXV using the retainer plate nut that should be tightened to 20 N.m (15 lb ft). The last procedure includes evacuating and charging the A/C system before inspecting the damaged A/C joints for leaks through the Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A).
