2008 Chevrolet Equinox Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the air conditioning evaporator core on 2008 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: The first step for replacing the air conditioning Evaporator core involves removing both the hvac module and the Evaporator case assembly. Start by unscrewing the thermal expansion valve (TXV) bolts from the backing plate and proceed to remove the txv together with the backing plate from Evaporator pipes. First take out the seal washers from both Evaporator pipes and from the hvac module front of dash seal. You must unscrew the two blower case assembly halves before separating them in order to extract the Evaporator core. To install the Evaporator core, apply the right amount of polyalkylene glycol (PAG) oil before checking that the retaining seal is properly set at its correct location. Put the Evaporator core inside the blower case assembly then reattach its two halves with screws tightened to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). The hvac front of dash panel should be reinstalled while new seam washers go on both Evaporator pipes before attaching the txv and backing plate to these pipes and tightening the txv screws to 3.5 n.m torque (31 lb in force). The procedure ends with insertion of the Evaporator case assembly after installing the hvac module.
