2009 Chevrolet Equinox Steering Knuckle Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the steering knuckle on 2009 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: First, lift and support the vehicle, then take the tire and wheel off in order to replace the Steering Knuckle. Then, pull out the wheel bearing/hub assembly, paying attention so that the stabilizer link ball stud doesn't rotate while you're removing the link nut. Take off the stabilizer link from strut assembly by removing the nut, loosen Steering Knuckle to strut bolts and nuts. Remove and discard the bottom ball joint cotter pin, remove and loosen the ball stud nut until the nut is level with the top of the ball stud, and place the j-42188-b (Ball Joint Separator) to separate the lower ball joint from the Steering Knuckle. After that, carefully remove the lower ball joint nut and disconnect it from the knuckle while being careful not to destroy the seal or bushing. Then, extract the outer Tie Rod End out of the knuckle, then the nbolts and nuts connecting the Steering Knuckle to the strut, then extract the Steering Knuckle itself out of the vehicle. For installation, place the Steering Knuckle to strut assembly and loosely attach the strut to Steering Knuckle bolts and nuts. Replace the lower ball joint stud into the Steering Knuckle, ball stud nut, and the nut can then be turned up to 40 nm (30 lb ft). Then, tighten the strut to steering aircraft knobs and nuts to 180 nm (133 lb ft) while making sure that the castle nut will be tight enough to allow cotter pin installation without loose nuts. Replace the new cotter pin, bolt the outer Tie Rod End to the knuckle and have the stabilizing link ball stud not move while installing the link nut. Set the stabilizer shaft link to the strut assembly and tighten the nut to 65 nm (48 lb ft). Replace the wheel bearing/hub assembly and tire wheel, then lower the vehicle, and then align the tires.
