The process for Exhaust Heat Shield replacement starts by removing the Catalytic Converter which is present in (LE5, L61) or (LNF) engines. Non-petroleum lubricant should be applied to the insulators before they are pulled from the resonator pipe and the Muffler. Lower the resinator pipe and the Muffler with help from a suitable jack stand to gain clearance. You must drill and remove the 4 heat shield rivets together with the heat shield nut before uninstalling the heat shield. You should first position the heat shield below the underbody before hand-tightening the heat shield nut to 10 nm (89 lb in). New heat shield rivets should be installed before applying non-petroleum-based lubricant to insulators. Then, raise the resonator pipe and Muffler to their insulators for attachment before installing the Catalytic Converter.
