2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer Parking Brake Shoe Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Parking Brake Shoe on 2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: After verifying the parking brake application status you should free it and elevate the vehicle before proceeding. Remove the wheel and tire. It is unnecessary to separate brake caliper and mounting bracket components; instead simply position them to the vehicle side before securing them in this position. Separate the brake rotor followed by disconnecting the park brake cable from its lever on the brake. Pull the park Brake Shoe down until it frees from the hold down spring before pulling it away from the backing plate and sliding it out of the actuation mechanism . Take the shoe out from its position on the axle flange after removing it from the vehicle. Clean debris and dust from the park brake components with a clean towel. Adjust the screw until it stops at the adjustment nut notches and then reverse it 1/4 turn to maintain parallel alignment of slot openings between adjusting screw and tappet relative to the backing plate face. Wipe the backing plate rear surface with denatured alcohol before using filtered non-lubricated air to dry it. When installing the new park Brake Shoe position it first over the axle flange then on the actuation mechanism. Using precaution slither the lower shoe end down from the hold down spring while keeping it away from the backing plate before securing it against the plate surface. Guide the shoe up and underneath the hold down spring so that both tips rest properly inside the actuation mechanism slots when the assembly reaches the central position on the backing plate. Rule out brake malfunctions by operating the park brake actuator lever to watch the mechanism work. Finish the installation by connecting the park brake cable to the lever, readjusting the park Brake Shoe before you put on the rotor and caliper along with its bracket. Proceed to install the tire and wheel before lowering the vehicle.
