    Q:
How to replace the Parking Brake Shoe on Chevrolet SSR? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before shoe replacement the technician must release the park brake if engaged and raise the vehicle and detach the wheel and tire. The break caliper along with the mounting bracket should stay united while being moved to the side and securely positioned. In the next step take off the brake caliper alongside bracket while the brake rotor also needs removal. The park Brake Shoe can be detached from its position by sliding it downward to release its hold from the hold down spring following which the shoe can be lifted away from the backing plate to slide off the actuation mechanism . Clean all park brake components over the axle flange using a clean towel after removing the shoe. Adjust the adjustment screw to the notched position of the adjustment nut until it reaches full stoke and then loosen it by one-quarter turn making sure the opposing slots on both components match their position with the backing plate face. The rear backing plate requires cleaning with denatured alcohol before using filtered non-lubricated air to dry it. A new Brake Shoe should be placed over the axle flange before you position it on the actuation mechanism for installation. Begin by positioning the shoe lower end far from the backing plate and guide it down over the hold down spring top before setting the lower edge against the backing plate. Then push the shoe upward beneath the clamp. Examine the shoe assembly placement to verify its center position on the backing plate while both tips remain in the slots of the actuation mechanism . Check the park brake operation manually by using the park brake actuator lever to move the actuation mechanism. The park brake lever should receive its cable for reinstallation before the adjustment of the park Brake Shoe and the installation of brake components including the rotor and caliper and mounting bracket. The last step involves installing the wheel and tire following vehicle floor lowering.

    Q:
How to replace the brake shoes on GMC Envoy? Posted by Customer
    A:
In order to replace the brake shoes, obtain the required tools: j 38400 (Brake Shoe spanner & spring remover), and j 21177 - a (Drum to Brake Shoe clearance gage). Start with lifting and taking off the rear Brake Drum assembly. Clean the rear brake shoes with denatured alcohol and make the brake shoes lowest to decrease the tension on the retractor spring while removing the adjuster assembly. The retake the retractor spring from the secondary Brake Shoe and then the second Brake Shoe from the backing plate using a pair of channel locks. Repeat this process for the primary Brake Shoe, but be sure to take out also the return spring. Then press the lock-tab for the park brake cable using pocket flat-blade screwdriver, while holding it simultaneously, push the park brake cable forwards in order to unlock it from the retainer and take out of the lever but remembering not to separate the return spring from the lever. For installation, lubricate the surface of contact between the rear brake shoes and the backing plate using a small quantity of high-temperature silicone grease, install the park brake cable in the lever and feel a snap or clip when seated. Mount the retractor spring to the backing plate, then the primary Brake Shoe with the assistance of channel locks, then the secondary Brake Shoe. The retractor spring can be manually installed in either (J 38400 ) or channel locks. Then install the park brake adjusting hardware and adjust the rear brake shoes using the j22364-01 before reinstalling the rear Brake Drum and bringing the vehicle down.
