Buick Rainier Parking Brake Shoe Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Parking Brake Shoe on Buick Rainier?
A: Start by releasing the park brake if engaged along with raising the vehicle. Remove the wheel and tire. Brake caliper units should be moved to the side after securing them in position while leaving the mounting bracket in place. After removing the brake caliper in combination with its bracket the next step involves removing the brake rotor. Begin the shoe replacement by detaching the park brake cable from the lever after which you must lower the shoe to disconnect it from springs. Then lift the shoe to clear the backing plate and move on with the actuation mechanism separation. Apply a clean towel to wipe away particles and dust from all park brake components that are located over the axle flange. Complete the adjustment screw home position within the notched adjustment nut before executing a 1/4 turn backward adjustment while checking the slots from adjusting screw and tappet maintain parallel alignment with the backing plate face. Apply non-lubricated filtered air to ensure the rear backing plate achieves complete dryness after cleaning it with denatured alcohol. Start by putting the new park Brake Shoe onto the axle flange followed by its positioning onto the actuation mechanism. The back end of the shoe needs to be away from the backing plate as you push the shoe downward over the hold down spring before placing it against the backing plate followed by sliding the shoe upward under the hold down spring. The shoe assembly must be placed in the center of the backing plate while its tips need to sit in the slots of the actuation mechanism. Check the park brake manually by moving the actuator lever which will trigger the park brake mechanism. The brake rotor receives installation after replacing the park brake cable onto the park brake lever and performing Brake Shoe adjustment. During the installation process reinstall the brake caliper then mounting bracket before replacing the tire and wheel and finally lowering the vehicle.
