Buick Rainier Wheel Bearing Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front wheel bearing, hub, and seal on a 4WD on Buick Rainier?
A: At the start of the repair process you need to take off the tire and wheel center cap along with the drive axle nut on a 4wd vehicle. After lifting the car use mechanical jacks to take off the tire wheel set along with the brake rotor. To shield wheel drive shaft threads place a brass drift against the outer shaft end then tap it with a hammer but do not try to extract the shaft now. Take out the two bolts that secure the ABS Sensor and remove the sensor from the Wheel Hub and bearing assembly. Take off the Wheel Hub and bearing from the Steering Knuckle by unscrewing bolts and separate the splash shield from the Steering Knuckle. After placing the splash shield on the Steering Knuckle you need to position its threaded holes directly. Fit the Wheel Hub and bearing to the Steering Knuckle using the threaded holes as alignment marks and fasten it with mounting bolts at 105 nm torque (77 ft. Lbs.). Fit the ABS Sensor with the mounting bolt and secure it at the specified torque value of 18 nm (13 ft. Lbs.). Put the brake rotor back on alongside the tire and wheel before lowering the vehicle down. Finish the process by installing the drive axle nut then screwing it to 140 nm (103 ft. Lbs.) before putting on the tire and wheel center cap.
