Buick Rainier Wheel Speed Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the Wheel Speed Sensor on Buick Rainier?
A: Before starting work you must raise the vehicle and remove all related components including the tire wheel brake rotor and wiring harness. Unplug the Wheel Speed Sensor electric connector then release its wiring harness retainer parts. Gently pull the sensor in a straight line from the bore by unscrewing the mounting screw. Doing this without tools prevents potential sensor body damage. Leaving the stainless steel shim attached to the bearing assembly is vital so keep it in place; when the bearing assembly needs replacement both sensor and abs functionality require this part for operation. Be careful during bearing cleaning to stop grease inside the sealed unit from getting contaminated which can damage the bearing faster. After taking out the Wheel Speed Sensor from its hub and bearing location put in the new speed sensor which includes a fresh o-ring. Get rid of the aged o-ring and apply a thin layer of bearing grease to the new o-ring before putting it in place making sure not to touch the bore of the sensor. Connect the Wheel Speed Sensor electrical wires before threading the speed sensor mounting screw and tightening it to 18 nm (13 ft. Lbs.). The new speed sensor package comes with suitable clips on the wire so avoid reusing your old setup. First position the Wheel Speed Sensor wiring harness onto the frame then Control Arm before adding the brake rotor and returning the wheel and tire to their place.
