  • Q: How to Replace a CV Boot and CV Joint on a Front Wheel Drive Shaft for Inner on 2009 GMC Acadia?
    A: In order to replace the front wheel drive shaft inner joint and boot, first you will need to remove the wheel drive shaft from the car, and clamp it to the top edge of a soft jawe vise. Remove and discard the small boot clamp and the right tool to remove and discard the large boot clamp , using side cutters. Subsequently, lift the boot from the housing of the tripot and take away the inner tripot housing of the wheel drive shaft. Use the correct tool in removing the outer tripot spider retaining ring and remove the tripot spider from the wheel drive shaft. If authorized, use the proper tool to eliminate the inner tripot retaining ring off the wheel drive shaft preceding the deprivation of the wheel drive shaft boot . Check the inner joint of the drive shaft wheel. Make sure for assembly to install the boot on the wheel drive shaft, makes sure that it is properly seated in-the groove. If necessary, install the inner tripot retaining ring with the appropriate tool. Place the tripot spider in close contact with the shoulder of the wheel drive shaft and install the outer tripot spider retaining ring using the right tool. Apply the use of the j 35910 - drive axle seal clamp pliers in order to close the boot clamp until the distance between the clamp and the boot clamp is approximately 1.8 mm (0.07 inch). Mount the tripot housing on the wheel drive shaft and the wheel drive shaft boot; mount on the tripot housing. Apply about half of the lubricant in the boot and the other half in the tripot housing . Then with the use of the j 35910 - drive axle seal clamp pliers , ratchet wrench, and breaker bar, close the boot clamp until the gap is 1.9 mm (0.07 inch). Any excess lubricant removed from the tripot housing and wheel drive shaft, then move the tripot joint housing in circular motion for proper lubricant distribution. Finally, take out the wheel drive shaft from the vise and put it back on to the vehicle.
