- Q: How to replace the alternator (LLV/LLR) (2.9L, 3.7L) on 2009 GMC Canyon?A: To remove the generator (LLV/LLR) (2.9L, 3.7L), start with disconnecting the battery negative cable. Removing the Drive Belt and lifting the vehicle to a level whereby you can have access to pass the A/C Compressor through the wheelhouse. There is no need to vacate the a/c refrigerant when you can get the left front wheel and the left wheelhouse liner out, then loosen the A/C Compressor connection from a bracket. Remove the A/C Compressor mounting bolt, while leaving the upper mounting bolt with the A/C Compressor. Lower the vehicle and move the protective boot from the generator output bat terminal to allow access. Disconnect the generator lead from the generator and disconnect the wiring harness connector; detach the generator output bat terminal nut. Disconnect the three mounting bolts of the generator and engine lift bracket to provide space for the generator. Shift the A/C Compressor toward the front to facilitate generator removal, and then remove the generator off the engine. For installation, stand the generator to the engine and install the engine lift bracket. Mount the generator bolts and tighten them in a sequence of 50 nm (37 lb ft). Attach the generator lead to the generator and mount the generator output bat terminal nut into 20 nm (15 lb ft). Push on the protective boot to the generator output bat terminal and attach the wiring harness connector to the generator. Lift up the vehicle again to align the A/C Compressor to the engine then install the A/C Compressor mounting bolts and secure with 50 nm (37 lb ft). Connect the A/C Compressor electrical connector to the bracket, then reinstall left wheelhouse liner, and the left front wheel. Reduce vehicle, set up the Drive Belt and lastly rejoin the battery negative cable.
