2009 GMC Canyon Rocker Shaft Spring Kit Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Rocker Shaft Spring Kit and valve stem oil seal on 2009 GMC Canyon?
A: Position your vehicle and remove the service slot plug before you start working on the valve components. Set up the en 46547 tool inside the flywheel teeth and carefully lower the vehicle. Take off camshafts and spark plugs first. Insert the base plate of the j-44228-a into the Spark Plug hole of the targeted cylinder and fit in the j 39313 adapter. Apply pressurized air to keep the valve sealed. Fit the swivel nut and arm of the j-44228-a onto the stud that matches the valve while taking precautions to handle the compressed valve springs safely. Twist the swivel nut only until you access the valve locks and then remove them with a magnetic tool. Rotate the swivel nut until the arm can move aside from the engine block to get the valve spring retainer and valve spring off. The j 38820 (Valve Stem Seal Installer) tool should be used to grab and pull the old stem seal while rotating the tool to remove it. Seal and stem in the new valve with clean oil before using the j 38820 tool to push and twist the seal into position properly. Put back the valve spring elements and lock the j-44228-a swivel nut modestly before placing the valve locks using the specialized tool j 43059. Perform this procedure on all remaining cylinder valves by taking off the swivel nut and arm of the j-44228-a. Use the j 39313 to extract the Spark Plug then unfasten j-44228-a base parts and work through other cylinders for replacement. After service ends, put back spark plugs and camshafts. After raising and supporting the vehicle complete the procedure by taking out the en 46547 tool from the flywheel teeth and putting the service slot plug back in before letting the vehicle down.
