2010 GMC Canyon Rocker Shaft Spring Kit Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Rocker Shaft Spring Kit and valve stem oil seal on 2010 GMC Canyon?
A: To change the Valve Stem Oil Seal and valve spring you must first boost the vehicle and take off the service slot plug. Place the en 46547 (Flywheel Holding Tool) on the flywheel teeth before lowering the vehicle. Remove both camshafts and spark plugs from their locations. Fit the j-44228-a base plate above the Spark Plug hole of the targeted cylinder and insert the j 39313 Spark Plug port adapter. Maintain pressure through the compressor's air supply to prevent the valve from opening. Insert the j-44228-a arm over the stud that corresponds to the valve and tight the swivel nut but leave it loose enough to access the valve locks. Gently pull out the valve locks with a magnet before detaching the swivel nut and moving the arm away to take out both valve spring retainer and valve spring. Insert the j 38820 tool onto the valve stem seal to remove it by turning and pulling the device. Apply engine oil on the valve stem and inside the space before inserting the new seal with j 38820 until it fits properly. Position the valve locks into the valve stem retainer groove using j 43059 tool while the swivel nut remains loosely tightened. Perform the same procedure to remove and replace the swivel parts of all j44228a valves in the cylinder. Lower the air pressure and withdraw j 39313 from the Spark Plug hole before taking off j-44228-a base plate. Perform these steps for all cylinders needing service then put in spark plugs and camshafts. After supporting the car lift it again and put the service slot plug back in place while disconnecting the en 46547 tool from the flywheel teeth.
