2009 GMC Sierra 1500 Oil Filter Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the engine oil and oil filter on 2009 GMC Sierra 1500?
A: Begin the engine oil and Oil Filter replacement procedure by unlocking the hood before taking out the oil fill cap. Apply support to the vehicle along with proper height maintenance. You must place an oil drain pan under the Drain Plug because you need to remove the Drain Plug (430) to allow all the oil to drain completely. You should clean and examine the Oil Pan Drain Plug before replacing it when necessary along with the requirement to replace the Oil Pan sealing surface which necessitates an Oil Pan replacement. Finish cleaning the Drain Plug opening before tightening the Oil Pan Drain Plug into its place. Place the drain pan under the Oil Filter (437) before you unscrew the Oil Filter while keeping attention to the Oil Filter gasket that should remain intact to the old filter or else remove it from the Oil Pan. Apply engine oil to the new Oil Filter seal and mount (437) the new Oil Filter before tightening it up to 30 nm (22 lb ft). Lower the vehicle after removing its oil drain pan from beneath and tighten the Oil Pan Drain Plug (430) to 25 nm (18 lb ft). Add new engine oil to the compartment followed by engine startup for subsequent oil leak observation. The engine should be switched off as you let oil drain into the Oil Pan for several minutes. Wash the oil level indicator before reinstalling it against the top of the tube when the handle reaches that position. Check the oil level progressively by removing the oil level indicator for the second time while wearing gloves and lowering the pointer. The necessary oil level adjustment should be performed by adding or removing oil followed by leak assessment before completing the process by closing the hood.
