2009 GMC Sierra 1500 Transfer Case Seal Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the front output transfer case seal on 2009 GMC Sierra 1500?
A: The replacement of front output shaft seals begins with proper vehicle lifting and supports. Begin by removing both the transfer case shield when present and then detach the front propeller shaft. A two-part internal seal operates at the front output shaft while the inside seal race needs to be tightly fitted onto the shaft. A flat-tipped screwdriver should be used to pry the inner seal race forward before using a small pry bar to detach it from the front output shaft. A flat-tipped screwdriver or small pry bar should be used to separate the output shaft seal from its position by inserting the tool between the outer race lip and the transfer case. To install the output shaft seal users must connect the output shaft seal installer (J 43484) with the driver handle (J 8092) followed by inserting a new seal component. Follow the procedure by using both tools to install the seal before reinstalling the front propeller shaft. To complete this procedure check fluid levels and add fluid if necessary before reinstalling the transfer case shield when equipped with it.
