    Q:
How to replace the rear output transfer case seal on Chevrolet Avalanche 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
The replacement process for the rear transfer case output shaft seal begins by removing both the transfer case shield when present along with the rear propeller shaft. Inspection of the rear output shaft bushing should take place after you discard the rear output shaft seal. Apply the j45380 transfer case rear bushing remover and installer to remove the rear output shaft bushing by inserting the finger section ahead of the bushing and following with tube and forcing screw attachment while pushing out the forcing screw before tightening the wrench to extract the bushing. The j45380 procedure for installing a new output shaft bushing requires users to follow installation of the bushing or finger section then attach the finger section to the main body of j45380 while positioning the tool and bushing against the case and using a hammer with j45380 to install the bushing with the boot drain hole directed downwards toward the ground. To install a new front output shaft seal you need to use the seal installer (J37668-A). Additionally install the rear propeller shaft and check the fluid level for possible addition of fluid before reinstalling the transfer case shield if equipped.

    Q:
What tools are required to replace the rear transfer case seal on Chevrolet Silverado 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Three tools are needed for the rear output shaft seal replacement task: j 37668-a (Seal Installer) j 45380 (Transfer Case Rear Bushing Remover and Installer Light Duty) and dt-48734 (Transfer Case Rear Bushing Remover and Installer Heavy Duty). The replacement process starts by taking off the transfer case shield but only if it exists before moving onto the rear propeller shaft and rear output shaft seal. Studies the rear output shaft bushing before choosing the correct tool which features j 45380 for light duty and dt-48734 for heavy duty applications. Set the finger structure of the selected tool in position in front of the bushing. Secure the tube and forcing screw onto the finger structure while keeping the forcing screw rotated backward. A wrench on the forcing screw allows the removal of the rear output shaft bushing. The installation process requires a fresh rear output shaft bushing that you must insert through the same tool which positions the drain hole of the boot toward the downward direction. First position the rear output shaft bushing with the selected tool while hitting it with a hammer before installing the rear output shaft seal with j 37668-a. Finish the installation by replacing the rear propeller shaft followed by fluid level verification and fluid addition when needed and transfer case shield installation (when present).
