    Q:
How to replace the Upper Steering Column Bearing on Chevrolet Express 2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step to change the intermediate steering shaft bearing involves checking that the vehicle wheels face forward and the Steering Column sits at the lock position to avoid damaging the sir coil assembly. The first step requires installation of the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) through the Steering Column lower access hole. Start by taking out the lower intermediate shaft then proceed with removing Power Steering Reservoir mounting nuts until the reservoir moves out of position. First remove Cruise Control Module mounting nuts for vehicles with equipped cruise control before placing the module to the side. Remove the charged air cooler and the intermediate shaft seal mounting screws before pulling down the intermediate shaft seal to reach the upper intermediate shaft to intermediate shaft bearing retaining bolt. Remove both upper nuts on the intermediate shaft bearing bracket and the lower nuts on the intermediate shaft lower brace. First detach the intermediate shaft bearing from its studs on the cowl then disconnect it from the upper intermediate shaft before you remove the intermediate shaft bearing and seal. Begin installation by placing the intermediate shaft seal before mounting the intermediate shaft bearing to the upper intermediate shaft then to the cowl studs. Optionally install the intermediate shaft bearing lower brace retaining nut first before applying torque to 30 n.m (22 lb ft). The intermediate shaft bearing bracket retaining nuts require identical torque setting of 30 n.m (22 lb ft) for installation. Secure the upper intermediate shaft with a 30 n.m (22 lb ft) torque value while installing its intermediate shaft seal upper retaining screws to 2 n.m (18 lb in). Place the Cruise Control Module into position before tightening its mounting nuts to 5 n.m (44 lb in) while installing the charged air cooler and Power Steering Reservoir followed by mounting nut installation to 11 n.m (97 lb in). As the last step you should install the lower intermediate shaft after removing the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) through the Steering Column lower access hole.

    Q:
How to replace the Upper Steering Column Bearing on GMC Sierra 3500 Classic? Posted by Customer
    A:
Begin by eliminating the Steering Column followed by removal of the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil, turn signal multifunction switch, ignition lock cylinder case, tilt spring, automatic transmission control. The compressor (J 23653-SIR) combined with adapter (J 42137) allow removal of Steering Shaft lock plate retaining ring for disposal. Extract the Turn Signal Switch cancel cam position plate together with the Turn Signal Switch cancel cam and Steering Shaft upper bearing spring and Steering Shaft upper bearing inner race seat and Steering Shaft upper bearing inner race from the Steering Column shaft assembly. Use the pivot pin remover (J 21854-01) to remove the two pivot pins which hold the Steering Column tilt head assembly together. Place the tilt lever into the Steering Column tilt head assembly before pulling back the tilt lever while drawing the Steering Column tilt head assembly downward and toward the Steering Column. First separate the Steering Column tilt head assembly from the anti-rotation pin (J 42640), then remove the tilt lever and the Steering Shaft upper bearing from the Steering Column tilt head assembly. Installing the Steering Shaft upper bearing into the Steering Column tilt head assembly precedes Steering Column shaft assembly installation. Move the Steering Column tilt head assembly toward the Steering Column until the steering wheel lock shoes become secured. Install gm p/n 12346293 (Canadian P/N 992723) on pivot pins then push each pin into the Steering Column tilt head assembly while delivering stakes to three points on the Steering Column assembly. The anti-rotation pin (J 42640) with these components must be attached to the Steering Column shaft assembly: do the following steps when installing parts to the Steering Column shaft assembly: apply gm p/n 12345718 (Canadian P/N 10953516) across the Steering Shaft upper bearing inner race then position the Steering Shaft upper bearing inner race and Steering Shaft upper bearing inner race seat and Steering Shaft upper bearing spring followed by gm p/n 12377900 (Canadian P/N 10953529) lubrication of the Turn Signal Switch cancel cam and complete the installation with the Turn Signal Switch cancel cam position plate. The installation process requires use of the compressor j23653-sir and adapter j42137 for the new Steering Shaft lock plate retaining ring followed by automatic transmission control assembly then tilt spring and ignition lock cylinder case and turn signal multifunction switch and inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil until the Steering Column is installed.

    Q:
What components need to be installed onto the steering column shaft assembly for the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Install the anti-rotation pin (J 42640), lubricate the steering shaft upper bearing inner race with GM P/N 12345718 (Canadian P/N 10953516), then install the steering shaft upper bearing inner race, steering shaft upper bearing inner race seat, steering shaft upper bearing spring, and lubricate the turn signal switch cancel cam with GM P/N 12377900 (Canadian P/N 10953529) before installing it along with the turn signal switch cancel cam position plate.
