The first step requires installation of the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) through the Steering Column lower access hole. Start by taking out the lower intermediate shaft then proceed with removing Power Steering Reservoir mounting nuts until the reservoir moves out of position. First remove Cruise Control Module mounting nuts for vehicles with equipped cruise control before placing the module to the side. Remove the charged air cooler and the intermediate shaft seal mounting screws before pulling down the intermediate shaft seal to reach the upper intermediate shaft to intermediate shaft bearing retaining bolt. Remove both upper nuts on the intermediate shaft bearing bracket and the lower nuts on the intermediate shaft lower brace. First detach the intermediate shaft bearing from its studs on the cowl then disconnect it from the upper intermediate shaft before you remove the intermediate shaft bearing and seal. Begin installation by placing the intermediate shaft seal before mounting the intermediate shaft bearing to the upper intermediate shaft then to the cowl studs. Optionally install the intermediate shaft bearing lower brace retaining nut first before applying torque to 30 n.m (22 lb ft). The intermediate shaft bearing bracket retaining nuts require identical torque setting of 30 n.m (22 lb ft) for installation. Secure the upper intermediate shaft with a 30 n.m (22 lb ft) torque value while installing its intermediate shaft seal upper retaining screws to 2 n.m (18 lb in). So simply get your remover (J 21854-01) and pull out the 2 pivot pins from the Steering Column tilt head assembly. Place the tilt lever in to the Steering Column tilt head assembly , pull the tilt lever back , then pull the Steering Column tilt head assembly down and awaay from the Steering Column. Ditch anti-rotation pin (J 42640) and then remove tilt lever and Steering Shaft upper bearing from the Steering Column tilt head assembly. For installation, fitting on the Steering Shaft upper bearing to the Steering Column tilt head assembly, after which you install Steering Column shaft assembly. Maneuver and push the Steering Column tilt head assembly towards the Steering Column to lock the steering wheel lock shoes in place. Apply gm p/n 12346293 (Canada P/N 992723) lubricant to the pivot pins and press each pivot pin firmly into the Steering Column tilt head assembly and stake Steering Column at 3 positions around the pivot pins. Install the Steering Column shaft assembly with the enclosed parts: anti-rotation pin (J 42640) and pin retainer (J 42641) with flour (Fig. 7) (Majalis, 2018). Lubricate the Steering Shaft upper bearing inner race with gm p/n 12345718 (Canadian P/N 10953516); then install the Steering Shaft upper bearing inner race , steering shaft upper bearing inner rail seat , steering shaft upper bearing spring , lubricate the Turn Signal Switch cancel cam with gm p/n 12377900 (Canadian P/N 10953529); then install the Turn Signal Switch cancel cam and Turn Signal Switch cancel cam position plate . Finally, fit the new Steering Shaft lock plate retaining ring at the level of the Steering Shaft using compressor (J 23653-SIR) and adaptor (J 42137), then the automatic transmission control assembly, tilt spring, ignition lock cylinder case, turn signal multifunction switch, inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil, and the Steering Column.
