Before you replace the intermediate steering shaft bearing keep the vehicle's wheels straight with the
Steering Column in lock mode to protect the sir coil assembly from harm. First insert the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) into the lower access hole of the Steering Column. You must first remove the lower intermediate shaft before you detach the
Power Steering Reservoir mounting hardware and set the reservoir to one side. Taking out the
Cruise Control Module mounting nuts is the next step before putting the module to the side when present. First remove the charged air cooler so you can take out the screws meant to attach the intermediate shaft seal. After pulling the intermediate shaft seal down you can remove the upper intermediate shaft to intermediate shaft bearing retaining bolt. Disassemble the assembly by taking out the three intermediate shaft bearing bracket retaining nuts along with the intermediate shaft lower brace retaining nut. Remove the intermediate shaft bearing by breaking it free from its cowl studs then unlinking it from the upper intermediate shaft before both components are removed. Start the installation by installing the intermediate shaft seal afterward attach the intermediate shaft bearing to the upper intermediate shaft and the studs on the cowl. Begin by installing the intermediate shaft bearing lower brace retaining nut with 30 nm (22 lb ft) torque setting and continue by tightening the intermediate shaft bearing bracket retaining nuts to 30 nm (22 lb ft). Tighten the intermediate shaft bearing retaining bolt to 30 nm (22 lb ft) while keeping the upper intermediate shaft in position then use 2 nm (18 lb in) torque when securing its seal upper retaining screws. The installation process requires reinstallation of the charged air cooler then returning the Cruise Control Module to its position before tightening all mounting nuts to 5 nm (44 lb in). To complete the installation sequence position the Power Steering Reservoir before tightening its mounting nuts to 11 nm (97 lb in). Then add the lower intermediate shaft and extract the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) from the Steering Column lower access hole.
