How to replace the inner tie rod in the steering linkage on Chevrolet Express 2500?

Steering gear removal from the vehicle precedes inspection of the inner Tie Rod so check for corrosion and contaminations underneath the boots and replace the gear if needed. Take the 2 steering gear boots and breather tubes off before fixing the steering gear in a vise which should not modify the preload setting. When changing the left inner Tie Rod housing, slide out the left shock damper to the rack then apply a pipe wrench at the steering gear valve end onto the inner Tie Rod housing while maintaining safety through its positioning. Start by placing a pipe wrench on the rack beside the left inner Tie Rod housing. Then place a wrench on the flats of the housing, followed by counterclockwise rotation to unfasten it from the rack. The same method should be applied to separate the right inner Tie Rod. Install the left inner Tie Rod on the rack by applying threads of loctite(R) 262 first then cleaning and removing old loctite(R) from threads when female rack and male inner Tie Rod match. You should use a pipe wrench to firmly grip the rack beside the left inner Tie Rod housing. Then use the j-34028 (Inner Tie Rod Wrench) while applying a torque wrench to tighten the inner Tie Rod to 100 nm (74 lb ft) torque value. For this installation process the right inner Tie Rod should receive loctite(R) 262 on its threads before installation with the same tightening procedure. The female inner Tie Rod housing needs male rack stake procedures if required. Proper staking requires a 0.25 mm gauge. Funding completion involves placing the left shock damper on its designated inner Tie Rod housing followed by steering gear boot installation alongside breather tube attachment and steering gear reinstallation to the vehicle.
