Ignition Switch

The Ignition Switch connector release tool (J-42759) and other essential tools should be acquired for ignitions and start switch service and repair work. Start by detaching the negative Battery Cable while you disable the sir system. The hush and knee bolster should be removed first followed by all steering column trim covers. Push your allen wrench inside the top hole of the lock cylinder housing while keeping the key in run mode to free the lock cylinder tab into position for removal. After disconnecting the passlock and key buzzer on the lock cylinder housing you can use the Ignition Switch connector release tool (J-42759) to free both tabs on the Ignition Switch before removing it. Examining the alignment of the gears between the Ignition Switch and the lock cylinder housing ensures the vehicle avoids no start and battery drain issues. Use the Ignition Switch gear to align the position properly before turning the lock cylinder housing gear counterclockwise until it reaches its stop point. Connect the Ignition Switch after inserting it into the lock cylinder housing with correct placement of its tabs. The lock cylinder housing gear should be turned clockwise to start until it automatically returns to run while you align it for installation. Connect the passlock and key buzzer followed by replacing the steering column trim covers and hush and knee bolster. The Battery Cable needs to be reconnected while enabling the sir system.
