2009 GMC Yukon Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intake manifold (500) excluding RPOs LY2, LY6, LC9, LMG, and LY5 on 2009 GMC Yukon?
A: The replacement process for an Intake Manifold (500) starts with duct and generator removal on vehicles without rpo codes ly2 or ly6 or lc9 or lmg or ly5. Begin by removing the retainer nut from the engine harness before taking out the retainer from its position between the stud and locator pin. Engine harness electrical connectors leading to the evap canister purge solenoid , manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor , ignition coil harness , left side fuel injectors , throttle actuator , right side fuel injectors , and engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor must be disconnected. First secure the engine harness out of sight before disconnecting from the Brake Booster Vacuum Hose and the evap canister purge tube and fuel feed line quick connect fitting. The mechanic should first loosen bolts (512) at the Intake Manifold before removing component (500) while using a protective cover to prevent part entry. After the removal of Intake Manifold gaskets (514) if you plan to replace the manifold then disconnect the Brake Booster Vacuum Hose from the manifold nipple and upper Intake Manifold cover along with the upper Intake Manifold cover nut. Before starting, separate the MAP Sensor from its retainer while disconnecting the evap tube and removing Throttle Body and Fuel Rail along with the Throttle Body Gasket and Fuel Injector lower o-ring seals. To install this component replace the Brake Booster Vacuum Hose nipple to a new manifold then apply new lower o-ring Fuel Injector seals and lubricate them with oil before tightening the Fuel Rail bolts to 10 nm (89 lb in). Start by installing the new Throttle Body Gasket before the Throttle Body itself with its bolts/nuts and finish by installing the evap tube along with the purge solenoid. First connect the evap tube quick connect fitting before lubricating the MAP Sensor seal and installing the MAP Sensor along with its retainer. The upper Intake Manifold needs its cover and nut installation followed by a Brake Booster Vacuum Hose reconnection and a new set of Intake Manifold gaskets (514) before adding the Intake Manifold (500) back on. Follow this torque sequence when securing the Intake Manifold bolts (512): first, apply 5 nm (44 lb in) followed by 10 nm (89 lb in) for the last pass. Reattach the pcv hose along with the fuel feed line quick connect fitting and the evap canister purge tube to their respective positions. Secure the engine harness and reattach the Brake Booster Vacuum Hose at its booster fitting while connecting all removed electrical components. Install the generator and the air cleaner outlet duct as the last step.
