Clean the differential case in solvent and examine the metal fo chips or cracks, bolt holes , unusual wear, grooves and scoring, damaged side bearings flanges, heat discoloured parts and worn differential pin bores . Clean the ring gear in solvent and inspect areas of damage to threaded holes as well as odd wear or heat discoloration to the gear teeth . Clean the pinion flange in solvent and examine the pinion flange to the wear, pitting, or twisting of the splines and grooves /pcitting on the sealing surface. Examine the bearing rollers and races for pitting, scoring or groove, extreme wear or other damage, and inspect for yellow to dark blue heat discoloration, which may and indicates that the bearing has been subjected to extreme overload or poor lubrication; All bearing or races in evidence of heat discoloration must be replaced. Also, check for bent or damaged bearing cages.
