A flat-bladed tool should separate the boot retaining clamp from the boot for the tripot housing and side cutters should detach the boot clamp from the boot for the wheel drive shaft. Check the wheel drive shaft inner joint for damage and extreme wear after removing the boot from the shaft. When building this assembly combination boot and clamp must be positioned directly onto the wheel drive shaft while the boot should rest in the groove of the shaft. Install the tripot spider assembly to the wheel drive shaft until it reaches the shoulder before using an appropriate tool to install the retaining ring into the wheel drive shaft. The J 42572 - Drive Shaft Seal Clamp Pliers should be used to trap the boot clamp until the opening registers 1.0 mm (0.040 in). Insert half the lubrication serving into the boot section followed by a distribution of the rest into the tripot housing enclosure. First position the tripod housing on the wheel drive shaft followed by boot clamp installation on boot sections for tripot housing before adding boot clamp to wheel drive boot. To finalize the procedure use the J 35566 - Earless Seal Clamp Tool to secure the boot clamp and cleanse the wheel drive shaft of surplus lubricant before putting the tripot housing assembly into motion to spread the lubricant throughout the tripot joint.
