Inner CV Joint Boot

To remove the rear wheel drive shaft inner joint boot, first of all, unbolt the rear wheel drive shaft from the vehicle and secure it in a soft jaw vise so as not to cut through the inboard boot to inboard boot to prevent damaging the sealing surface. Eliminate the boot clamps and and dismount boot from CV Joint and wheel drive axle. Use hammer and punch to remove the cap from the CV Joint and in case there is contamination in the inner parts of the CV Joint then replace the rear wheel drive shaft assembly since the inner parts are not serviceable. Clean off the grease from the inner race, cage and balls, pop out the joint race retaining, use snap ring pliers to remove the retained ring, take out the inner CV Joint assembly by using a hammer with a brass drift. After checking the inner CV Joint install the inner boot and clamp together with the wheel drive shaft and apply half of the lubricant from the service pack to the boot. Make sure the boot is seated correctly in the grooved wheel drive shaft and then apply a block of wood or brass drift to fit the CV Joint into the wheel drive shaft. Replace the new retaining ring for the CV Joint using the snap ring pliers, lubricate all the inner parts of it, lubricate the ball bearings and cage of the CV Joint. Mount the outer boot clamp onto the boot , having it between the bolts and washers before crimping for bolt installation and removal. Check the boot for right shape and damage and reshape it when needed and replace if damaged. Clamp the bottom of the inner and outer boots together using the j 42572 - pliers until the gap (a) is at 1.0 (0.040 in). Wash the cap with an alcohol-based solvent and then draw a 3 mm (0.118 in) bead of sealant on the inside face of the CV Joint. For the cts, the j 22928-b - installer and a hammer should be used for the grease cap installation on the inner housing, while the mounting fastener holes are aligned. For the cts-v, employ j 38734 and a hammer to mount the new CV Joint cap. Rotate the inner joint 4 or 5 times distributing the lubricate on the inner joint then check the operation and take out the extra lubricant on the wide drive to the shafer and fit the wheel to the wheel drive shafer.

To replace the front wheel drive shaft inner joint boot you must first take off the wheel drive shaft and secure it to a soft jawed vise. Use a flat bladed tool to unattach the boot retaining clamp from the boot for the tripot housing, and side cutters for boot clamp from the boot for wheel drive shaft. Subsequently, remove the tripod housing from the wheel drive shaft and use the required tool to remove retaining clip and the tripot spider from the wheel drive shaft . Take off the boot from the wheel drive shaft and check the inner joint for damage and excess wear. To assemble, place the boot and the clamp on the wheel drive shaft while making sure that the boot is located in the grooved wheel drive shaft. Mount the tripot spider assembly until it is pressed against the shoulder and mount the retaining ring in the wheel drive shaft by using the tool suited for the task. Close the boot clamp with the j 42572 - drive shaft seal clamp pliers , ensuring the gap will be 1.0 mm (0.040 in). Add half of the lubricant into the boot and half into the tripot housing, after that mount the tripod housing on the wheel drive shaft. Put the boot clamp on the boot for tripot housing and the boot clamp on the boot for wheel drive . Lastly, clamp the boot using the j 35566 - earless seal clamp tool, clean off extra lubricant from the wheel drive shaft, and rotate the tripot housing assembly in order to spread lubricant around the tripot joint before the installation of the wheel drive shaft.

You should start by removing the rear wheel drive shaft from the vehicle while placing it into a soft jawed vise before securing it. Pay attention to avoid cutting through either the inboard or outboard boot since this action damages the sealing surface and creates early boot wear. The boot clamps need discarding after using a side cutter to remove boot material from the shaft CV Joint and wheel drive assembly. Use a hammer and punch to remove the cv boot cap. Findings of contamination in the interior wheel drive shaft components require a complete replacement of the entire rear wheel drive shaft set. Clean all grease from the joint's inner race, cage and balls then use snap ring pliers to remove the joint race retaining ring before extracting the inner CV Joint assembly with a hammer and brass drift. Check the inner CV Joint before beginning assembly steps. Seat the inner boot and clamp onto the wheel drive shaft and apply lubricant from the service pack while fitting the boot. Use a block of wood or brass drift to put the CV Joint onto the wheel drive shaft after ensuring the boot sits correctly within its grooved position. Use snap ring pliers to install the new CV Joint retaining ring while making sure all internal components stay lubricated then apply lubricant to both ball bearings and cage of the CV Joint. Crank the clamp between the bolts and washers before crimping the joint while checking the boot for correct shape and damage which may necessitate a boot replacement. Tighten the inner and outer boot clamps with pliers j 42572 - until you get a gap measurement of 1.0 (0.040 in) at point (a). Drain the alcohol-based solvent from the cap and let it dry before you place a 3 mm (0.118 in) bead of sealant inside the CV Joint face where the mounting fasteners should align. To install the CV Joint cap use the j 22928-b - installer to rotate the inner joint four or five times until lubricant spreads evenly then remove excess lubricant from around the wheel drive shaft before reinstalling the shaft.

Install the tripod housing on the wheel drive shaft, followed by the boot clamp on the boot for the tripot housing and the boot clamp on the boot for the wheel drive.

Position the boot and large clamp in the joint groove, ensuring the clamp is not over-tightened.

Use side cutters to remove and discard the small seal clamp.

Align the cage and inner race with the outer race, install the balls sequentially, and apply approximately 60 percent of the grease from the service kit into the outer joint.

Align the holes for the mounting fasteners in the cap and CV joint, and install the CV joint cap using the J 22928-B - installer.

Remove the wheel drive shaft from the vehicle and wrap a shop towel around the wheel drive shaft bar, then place it horizontally in a bench vise.

Use the appropriate tool to remove the retaining clip and the tripot spider.

Inspect the outer joint for smooth operation by rotating the wheel drive shaft several times.

Clean it with an alcohol-based solvent.
