• Q: How to replace the negative battery cable from the engine to the chassis on 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt?

  A: To disconnect the negative cable from the engine to the chassis, firstly disconnect the negative cable from the battery. If the vehicle is equipped with regular production options, remove rpo lap with mn5- then remove the engine harness ground nut from the engine then detach engine harness the ground term and the negative Battery Cable ground terminal from the stud . Raise and support the vehicle. In the case of rpo lap with m86, remove the ground nut of the engine harness; take off the engine harness ground terminal from the stud and remove the stud prior to relieving the negative Battery Cable ground terminal from the engine block. With equipped rpo laf, remove engine harness ground nut and detach the engine harness grounds and remove stud before relocating the engine harness ground and separate negative Battery Cable ground terminal from the engine block. Next, also remove the left headlamp and in removing the left headlamp opening remove the negative Battery Cable ground nut from the stud at the side rail as well as remove the ground terminal. Cut the positive/negative Battery Cable conduit at the tape, remove the exsisting tape and remove the negative Battery Cable. In installing, the negative Battery Cable clockwise to the conduit and tape the positive/negative Battery Cable conduit. Through the left headlamp opening, hook up the negative Battery Cable negative terminal to the stud and reconnect the left headlamp assembly. Mount the Battery Cable ground nut on to the stud on the side rail and tighten the nut to 20 nm (15 lb ft). For rpo laf, locate the negative Battery Cable ground terminal in the engine block, attach the engine harness ground on the top of the ground terminal and tighten to 25 nm (18 lb ft), install the stud, attach the engine harness grounds onto the stud then install the engine harness ground nut and tighten to 17 nm (13 lb ft). For rpo lap with m86, connect the negative Battery Cable ground terminal to the engine block, attach 1 (1) stud and torque to 25 nm (18 lb ft), connect 1 (1) engine harness ground terminal to the stud , and tighten 1 (1) engine harness ground nut to 17 nm (13 lb ft). For rpos lap with mn5, connect the negative Battery Cable ground terminal to the stud , and connect the engine harness ground terminal to the stud , and secure the engine harness ground nut to 17 nm (13 lb ft). Finally, position the vehicle and then reconnect the negative cable to the vehicle's battery.
