2010 Chevrolet Cobalt Camshaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intake camshaft and lash adjuster on 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: The first step for replacing the intake camshaft and valve lifters requires removal of the camshaft position intake actuator. You should loosen each bearing cap bolt by one turn at a time until the camshaft loses all spring tension before marking the bearing caps for reinstall and removing the bearing cap bolts and caps. Take out the intake camshaft while preserving its roller followers along with hydraulic adjusters for reinstall purpose. Then remove the roll followers along with hydraulic lash adjusters of the camshaft. When installing you must place the hydraulic element lash adjusters into their Cylinder Head bores followed by the installation of camshaft caps while manually starting the camshaft cap bolts. Proceed with tightening the camshaft cap bolts through three turns while making sure the caps reach 10 nm (89 lb in) torque. The alignment between the bearing rear cap and Cylinder Head needs verification alongside a verification of minimal gaps between mating surfaces. Clean both sealing areas before applying a 3.5 mm bead of sealer to the Cylinder Head number 6 intake camshaft rear cap mating surface. Install the rear cap while evenly tightening its bolts to 5 nm (44 lb in) then to 10 nm (89 lb in). Complete the tightening procedure for all cap bolts by backing them 120 degrees past original position followed by a final torque to 10 nm (89 in lb). Thoroughly remove all spare sealing material around the fuel pump roller lifter orifice and sealing surfaces before installing the rear Cylinder Head opening plate along with its bolts which need tightening to 10 nm (89 lb in). Finish the installation by putting back the camshaft position intake actuator.
