2010 Chevrolet Corvette Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear crankshaft seal on 2010 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: Beginning crankshaft rear oil seal replacement requires complete removal of the engine Flywheel. Using a tool remove the crankshaft rear oil seal from its position at the rear cover. The oil seal features reverse-lip construction and its part number appears on its exterior face for correct orientation. Check the seal while you determine its part numbers that will assist with proper installation. Avoid application of lubricant to the crankshaft surface's inside diameter and refrain from reusing the crankshaft rear oil seal. Apply neat engine oil to the outside diameter of the oil seal but avoid contact between seal material and lubricant. You should apply engine oil to rear cover oil seal bore only while maintaining a distance from the crankshaft surface. Mount the j 41479 cone and bolts at the crankshaft's rear location before securing the bolts just tightly enough for a secure fit but avoid overtightening. Set the rear oil seal onto the tapered cone before gently moving it toward the rear cover bore. Place the j 41479 threaded rod through the tapered cone so the tool touches the oil seal before aligning the seal onto the tool . Use a clockwise twist motion on the tool handle to push the seal completely into the back cover and let it stop at the cover's bore. Finish by removing j 41479 tool then replace the engine Flywheel.
