  • Q: How to replace the Parking Brake Cable on the rear right side on 2010 Chevrolet Express 2500?
    A: The procedure to replace the right-side parking brake rear cable begins with discharging the park brake and shutting down the automatic adjuster system of the brake cable. Support the vehicle from above before removing the cable from the equalizer. The cable removal for cargo and passenger vehicles involves tab depression on the Rear Crossmember but cutaway vehicles need bracket unmounting in similar fashion. Pass the cable through the cable guide until you disconnect the rear axle vent hose clip from the cable on 1500 series models. After gently removing the rear axle clip you should remove the cable from its differential clip position. Press the lever to compress the spring while pushing towards it. Next, depress the cable locking tabs. Pull the cable housing through the backing plate slot opened by the tabs then remove the cable. Pull out the cable of the park brake from its position on the lever before taking it out of the vehicle. You should first route the cable through the vehicle then to the lever before making any installation steps. Pull the cable through the slot in the backing plate while compressing the spring and insert the cable housing inside the backing plate until locking tabs lock into position. Begin by installing the bolt which retains the cable to the lower shock mount so it achieves 13 nm (115 lb in) torque and continue installation by connecting the cable to the differential clip before finalizing assembly with the rear axle vent hose clip on the cable (1500 Series). Pass the cable through the cable guide and for cutaway vehicles install the cable to the mounting bracket where the locking tabs will snap into place. Passenger and cargo vehicles should perform the same cable installation onto their Rear Crossmember. After connecting the front cable to the equalizer remove the safety stands then lower the vehicle and enable the park brake cable automatic adjuster for necessary adjustment of the cable.
