2010 Chevrolet HHR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the battery positive and negative battery cables on 2010 Chevrolet HHR?
A: The first step to replace battery positive and negative cables involves disconnecting the negative Battery Cable. First open the junction block terminal cover then take off the junction block terminal nut followed by removing the positive/negative Battery Cable terminal from the junction block terminal stud. First disconnect the tie bar stud by removing both the positive/negative ground terminal and its corresponding nut and then separate the positive/negative Battery Cable clip from ecm/tcm bracket. Raise and support the vehicle. Until replacing the starter solenoid, disconnect the Battery Cable by removing its ground nut followed by the ground terminal from the transaxle stud, then remove the solenoid nut then disconnect the Battery Cable from the starter. A manual transaxle installation requires removal of the positive/negative Battery Cable ground nut and the positive/negative cable ground terminal from the transaxle stud then the starter solenoid nut and the positive/negative Battery Cable from the starter. When installing the starter you must first attach the positive/negative Battery Cable to the starter before installing the starter solenoid nut and torquing it to 17 nm (13 lb ft). Fasten the positive/negative cable ground terminal to the transaxle stud while tightening it to 10 nm (89 lb in). Also secure the positive/negative Battery Cable ground nut to the same torque value. The installation process begins with the positive/negative Battery Cable at the starter and proceeds to the starter solenoid nut receiving a torque of 17 nm (13 lb ft) before moving to the installation of positive/negative cable ground terminal to transaxle stud and positive/negative Battery Cable ground nut receiving 10 nm (89 lb in) torque. Sitting high on the jack, secure the positive and negative cable clip onto the ecm/tcm bracket. Subsequently install the positive/negative ground terminal and its corresponding ground nut on the tie bar stud. The next step involves connecting the positive/negative Battery Cable terminal to the junction block terminal stud while fastening the terminal nut to 15 nm (11 lb ft). Proceed by reconnecting the negative Battery Cable as the final step.
