To replace the exhaust Muffler with resonator or exhaust, depending on the concern related to the models l61 or le5 (2.2L and 2.4 L), start by lifting and supporting the vehicle, using an appropriate jack stand to support the exhaust resonator pipe. Unscrew the insulators from the resonator pipe and the Muffler . Cut the resonator pipe upstream of the weld at Muffler inlet pipe using an appropriate tool, then take off the Muffler from the vehicle. Then, remove the nuts from the resonator pipe from the Catalytic Converter and the gasket from the Catalytic Converter along with the resonator pipe. It is possible that deburring the ends of the resonator pipe and the Muffler inlet pipe will need to be done. For installation fix the new gasket on the resonator pipe and connect it to the Catalytic Converter , but remember to install the resonator pipe nuts and fix them with the use of 30 nm (22 lb ft) . Then, fix the resonator pipe to the insulators, thereafter the Muffler to resonator pipe and the insulators. Secure the service clamp exhaust Muffler and service clamp nuts to 45 nm (33 lb ft). Finally, take away the support from the exhaust system and check for exhaust leaks and under body clearance.
