2010 Chevrolet Impala Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Clutch assembly on 2010 Chevrolet Impala?
A: You need to start by removing the compressor and then removing three adjustable dowels from the (J 37872) using three 5/16 x 1 inch bolts to block their openings. Swapping the compressor clutch plate bolt with (J 37872) will enable the compressor clutch plate's removal. Start by removing the compressor pulley snap ring using the (J 6083) and then proceed to remove the compressor pulley with the same tool. The (J 6083) will help you extract the snap ring on the compressor clutch coil followed by the coil removal. Before putting in the compressor clutch coil you must clean the clutch plate bolt threads using an m6x1.0 tap and blow out all debris by blowing compressed air through them. Use the (J 6083) to secure the clutch coil snap ring before continuing with the compressor pulley installation by adding the snap ring and tool. Put a small amount of oil on the 0.4 mm (0.016 in) air gap shim then put it inside the clutch drive plate before you install the compressor clutch plate but make sure it does not touch the pulley. Use the shims to adjust the pulley and drive plate spacing to achieve an air gap measurement of 0.3 to 0.6 millimeters (0.012 to 0.024 inches). Make sure the new drive plate bolt has a color-indicating adhesive covering at least five threads before you install and tighten the clutch drive plate bolt to 12 nm (106 lb in) torque using the (J 37872). This tool will maintain the compressor clutch plate position. Reinstallation will include performing a leak test of compressor fittings that uses the (J 39400-A).
