Chevrolet Impala A/C Clutch Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the V5 Direct Mount A/C Clutch on Chevrolet Impala?
A: The v5 direct mount compressor clutch service repair starts with inserting the shaft key into the hub key groove 3.2 mm (1/8 in) beyond the keyway while ensuring a proper contact between curved shaft key and hub key groove. Clean both the clutch plate and clutch rotor surfaces before aligning the shaft key with the keyway of the clutch plate and hub assembly. Position the assembly onto the compressor shaft. Install the hub and drive plate installer (J 33013-B) on the opposite end after removing its center screw. After installing the hub and drive plate installer (J 33013-B) along with bearing tools onto the clutch plate and hub assembly use the device to thread the center screw onto the compressor shaft without tightening it. Screw tightness on the hub and drive plate installer's hex body requires several rotations before removal while maintaining the shaft key position. Set the hub and drive plate installer (J 33013-B) back in place between the clutch plate and clutch rotor then adjust its torque until the feeler gauge shows an even 0.40 mm (0.015 in) air gap around the entire assembly. Using the clutch hub holding tool (J 33027-A) hold the clutch plate and hub assembly before installing the compressor shaft nut to a torque of 17 n.m (13 lb ft). Check the pulley rotor's motion by hand before extracting the compressor unit from the compressor holding fixture (J 41790).
