2009 Chevrolet Impala Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Clutch assembly on 2009 Chevrolet Impala?
A: Begin compressor clutch assembly replacement by removing the compressor while replacing three adjustable dowels from the compressor clutch holding tool (J 37872) with three 5/16 x 1 inch bolts. Simply discard the clutch plate bolt then utilize the compressor clutch holding tool (J 37872) to stop the compressor clutch plate from turning while removing it. Before continuing you need to use the snap ring pliers (J 6083) to remove the snap ring from the compressor pulley followed by removing the pulley itself. Remove the compressor clutch coil snap ring with snap ring pliers (Tool J 6083) as a second step. The compressor clutch coil installation requires clean threads on clutch plate bolts through an m6x1.0 tap along with compressed air used to clear away debris before coil assembly. Use snap ring pliers (J 6083) to secure the compressor clutch coil snap ring and afterward install both the compressor pulley and its snap ring with this same tool. The 0.4 mm (0.016 in) air gap shim should receive a tiny amount of oil before placement inside the clutch drive plate while the compressor clutch plate installation occurs without pulley contact. Use shims to adjust the pulley and drive plate air gap distance to a range of 0.3 to 0.6 mm (0.012 to 0.024 in). Use the compressor clutch holding tool (J 37872) to maintain compressor clutch plate position when installing the new drive plate bolt with colored adhesive on at least 5 threads while tightening it to 12 nm (106 lb in). The final step includes reinstalling the compressor followed by a leak test of fittings through use of the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A).
