2010 Chevrolet Impala Tie Rod Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the outer tie rod in the steering linkage on 2010 Chevrolet Impala?
A: One needs to raise and support the vehicle before starting the replacement of the outer Tie Rod in the steering linkage. Start by removing the tire and wheel assembly followed by removing the existing prevailing torque nut on the outer Tie Rod assembly while loosening the jam nut on the inner Tie Rod assembly. A wedge must be inserted next to the joint to stop seal deterioration when keeping the steering linkage attached. The tool j 24319-b should be used to detach the outer Tie Rod assembly from the knuckle before removing it from the inner Tie Rod assembly. The installation of outer Tie Rod assembly onto inner Tie Rod assembly requires no tightening of jam nut . Install the outer Tie Rod assembly to the Steering Knuckle followed by applying the prevailing torque nut on the outer Tie Rod assembly where you should tighten until it reaches 30 nm (22 lb ft) followed by an additional 120-degree rotation with an end goal of having 2 1/2 to 4 1/2 threads on display past the nylon washer. After installation of the tire and wheel assembly reduce the vehicle height by performing a front end alignment.
