2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake disc (JH7) on 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?
A: A mechanic should begin rotor (JH7) replacement by releasing the parking brake followed by raising and supporting the vehicle. First remove the tire and wheel assembly before separating the hub and rotor assembly while keeping notes about their relative positions. Set the hub and rotor assembly on a hydraulic press to extract the wheel studs manually. Begin by splitting the hub from the rotor then set the hub and rotor to match for installation. Each new wheel stud should be installed into the hub and rotor assembly through the hole first followed by placement of 4 washers and then tightening a lug nut with its flat side facing the washers. First tighten the lug nut until the stud fully penetrates the structure then remove both the lug nut and washers. Install the hub and rotor assembly back onto the vehicle after which you must gradually push the brake pedal to 2/3 of its range and release it first before starting the engine. Keep a brake pedal pressure of 15 seconds for multiple presses until you reach a solid brake pedal stance for Brake Caliper Piston and pad contact. The tire and wheel assembly should be installed following master cylinder reservoir maintenance. The procedure requires pad and rotor burnishing when the brake rotor received any form of refinish or replacement.
