2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?
A: Vehicle support and elevation should be the first move when replacing the Oil Pan. Begin by removing the skid plate bolts from the Oil Pan skid plate and the plate itself if your vehicle comes equipped with one. Then drain the oil by taking out the Drain Plug and Oil Filter. Two-wheel drive owners must remove both the crossmember bolts and bar. 4-wheel drive owners must complete the same tasks by removing the front differential carrier. After raising the vehicle for support, remove the engine harness bracket bolts and Starter along with transmission cover and engine harness and transmission tube bracket and two engine wire harness bracket bolts. Begin by taking out transmission manual and automatic bolts when present before removing Oil Pan bolts and nuts eventually removing the Oil Pan itself. Pickout the mature Oil Pan Gasket while cleaning the Oil Pan. During installation apply a 5 mm (0.197 in) wide adhesive strip along both sides of the front cover to engine block junction and across the entire length of the rear oil seal housing to engine block junction. Utilize a fresh Oil Pan Gasket positioned in the Oil Pan groove while maintaining Oil Pan alignment exactly flush or forward just 0.3 mm (0.011 in) from the engine block's rear face. Position the Oil Pan while pressing the gasket to fit into grooves before you slide it against a straight edge. Next tighten the Oil Pan bolts and nuts into place before testing the Oil Pan-to-transmission housing clearance with a feeler gauge. The alignment process needs to be redone when the measurement goes beyond 0.3 mm (0.011 in). After nut and bolt tightening sequence, measure the Oil Pan-to-transmission housing clearance one more time. Screw in a new o-ring seal onto the Drain Plug while setting torque to 25 nm (18 lb ft). Replace the transmission cover by securing its bolts at 12 nm (106 lb in). Install the automatic as well as manual transmission bolts according to a torque specification of 50 nm (37 lb ft). Use a 9 nm torque (80 lb.in.) to fasten both engine wire harness bracket bolts and the engine harness and transmission tube bracket bolt. The Starter needs to be reinstalled while you attach the oil level sensor electrical connector before you tighten the engine harness bracket bolts to 12 nm (106 lb in). Put the crossmember and bolts on 2wd vehicles while tightening them to 100 nm (74 lb ft). Reinstall the front differential carrier along with the crossmember both secured at 100 nm (74 lb ft). The Oil Pan skid plate should be installed with bolts tightened to a torque of 20 nm (15 lb ft). To put the Oil Filter in place first apply engine oil on the gasket and follow by tightening the filter to 30 nm (22 lb ft). Lower the vehicle afterwards before adding the correct amount of high-quality engine oil.
