2010 GMC Yukon Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to properly replace brake lines to ensure system integrity on 2010 GMC Yukon?
A: Replace your brake pipes with double-walled steel brake material to stop brake system breakdowns while reinstalling the replacement parts in their standard positions. Use a replacement brake pipe made of steel double-walled material and fittings of correct size and type that create flare shapes matching the original construction. Start by examining the brake pipe area for repair then free it from retainers and pick a spot to section the pipe granting enough space for the J 45405. Choose the new brake pipe measurements by adding 6.35 mm (0.250 in) to 4.76 mm (3/16 in) pipe, 9.50 mm (0.374 in) to 6.35 mm (1/4 in) pipe, and 12.67 mm (0.499 in) to 7.94 mm (5/16 in) size. Cut the brake pipe straight to your measurement using the J 45405 pipe cutter before removing the cut section and selecting suitable brake pipe and tube nuts for the task. Use the coating stripping tool on J 45405 with its correct blade to strip off nylon from the brake pipe end while protecting the metal surface. Also smooth both sides of the pipe with the de-burring tool included in J 45405. Place tube nuts on the brake pipe while making sure all parts of J 45405 are free from debris before loosening die clamping screw. Set the die halves in the die cage then put a prepared pipe end into the system while making sure die seating is secure before tightening the clamp screw. Put the correct form mandrel into the J 45405 and use its lever to make the flare until you reach the end goal. Test the flare shape and size after disassembling the dies and pipe using specific diameter ranges based on the pipe type: die ware for 4.76 mm (3/16 in) pipe should measure 6.74-7.10 mm (0.265-0.279 in), for 6.35 mm (1/4 in) pipe measure 8.57-9.27 mm (0.344-0.358 in), and for 7.94 mm (5/16 in) pipe measure 10.42-10.79 mm (0.410-0.425 in). Form the new pipe with the brake pipe bending tool if required then fit unions at proper distance from moving parts while installing and do hydraulic system bleeding. Start the engine and test the brakes with assistance to identify any leak spots on the brake pipe flares.
