Buick Century Oxygen Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to Replace a Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) on Buick Century?
A: The replacement process for Heated Oxygen Sensors (HO2S) starts with lifting and supporting the vehicle. Disconnect the HO2S electrical connector. Special anti-seize compound which includes graphite suspended in fluid with glass beads must be used on the heated oxygen sensor threads because it provides both thread protection and ease of sensor removal. After the graphite material burns out during sensor use the glass beads inside will stay behind to help simplify sensor extraction. A special anti-seize compound is already present on new sensors as well as replacement parts. Before reinstalling an HO2S sensor operators must reapply anti-seize compound to its threads. For HO2S removal employ the Heated Oxygen Sensor Wrench (J 39194-B). When installing the HO2S threads should receive a coat of anti-seize compound P/N 12377953 or alternative product if required. Use the Heated Oxygen Sensor Wrench (J 39194-B) to install the heated oxygen sensor then torque the sensor to 42 N.m (31 lb ft). Reconnect the HO2S electrical connector after finishing your work by lowering the vehicle.
