Buick LaCrosse Engine Control Module Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) on Buick LaCrosse?
A: Providing Engine Control Module (ECM) replacement service begins with turning off ignition and verifying the ecm Fuse has no main relay circuit voltage. A diagnostic tool will help obtain engine oil life measurement information which needs to be programmed into the new module because the module will default to 100 percent without this data. The first step involves disconnecting the battery negative cable to remove the ecm as well as the tcm/ipc and ecm/tcm fuses which are present in the underhood Fuse block. Start by taking off the ecm connectors from both engine side (inboard) and body side (outboard) positions and then unfasten the ecm redundant ground wire and bolt before proceeding with ecm bolt removal. The ecm bracket and its bolts need to be taken away if needed during installation. After bracket removal install the bracket once again before tightening its bolts to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Install the ecm while securing it with the bolts and tighten both to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Secure the ecm redundant ground wire with its bolt by tightening to 5 n.m (44 lb in). You must connect the engine side (inboard) and body side (outboard) ecm connectors for installation and place the ecm/tcm, tcm/ipc, ecm fuses back into the underhood Fuse block. To finish the installation connect the negative Battery Cable followed by ecm programming which requires turning off ignition for at least 5 seconds prior to concluding the programming.
