A replacement of the Engine Control Module (ECM) must begin with shutting off the ignition to protect electronic devices. Before replacing the Engine Control Module (ECM) verify that the ignition is off to protect the machine components. You must open the release levers before you disconnect the ECM connectors from the Engine Control Module. The first step to replace a powertrain control module (PCM) requires verifying that the pcm you received is the correct one through inspection. The existing pcm must be replaced with the new service pcm though programming is mandatory since the replacement will not carry pre-written software. The service pcm must receive its broadcast code and production pcm number during identification procedures until the end of its service life so one should skip covering these values on the pcm face. Reinstall the left sheet metal diagonal brace next to the installation of the negative Battery Cable connection. The eeprom programming needs to be completed by any new pcm installation.

Measure the main relay circuit voltage at the ECM fuse in the underhood fuse block using a DVOM.

Unlock and remove the engine side ECM connector, then detach the ECM redundant ground wire and bolt, followed by the ECM bolts.

Unlock and remove both the body side (outboard) and engine side (inboard) ECM connectors.

Reattach the left diagonal brace and reconnect the negative battery cable. If a new PCM was installed, it must be programmed accordingly.

Ensure the ignition is OFF and confirm there is no main relay circuit voltage at the ECM Fuse.

Unlock and remove it by depressing the lever lock and rotating the clamp lever while depressing the lock slide.

Disconnect the battery negative cable, then remove the ECM fuse, TCM/IPC fuse, and ECM/TCM fuse from the underhood fuse block.

Install the ECM and its bolts, tightening them to 10 N.m (89 lb in), then attach the redundant ground wire and bolt at 5 N.m (44 lb in).

Reconnect the lower and upper ECM connectors, then reinstall the ECM/TCM fuse, TCM/IPC fuse, and ECM fuse in the underhood fuse block.
